Next Stop Dublin: Fritz Kalkbrenner

When We Dip
Deep House, Events, Techno
9 September 2013

One of our personal favourites Fritz Kalkbrenner rolls into Dublin this Friday night. He plays the Button Factory for new weekly night JACK who have made a large statement of intent with the arrival of the much lauded German. Alongside his very talented brother Paul he rose to prominence in 2008 off the back of the anthemic Sky and Sand, the lead track on the soundtrack for Berlin Calling.

Over the past few years he has made some massive strides, stepping out of the shadow of his brother and establishing himself as an artist in his own right. Most recently this summer he held residency for Insane! at Pacha, Ibiza on Friday nights. A night with a diverse selection of talent it has offered something different than the norm for the island’s clubbers and been seen as a resounding success. He’s also spent the intervening years since his initial break touring extensively all over the world, building his fanbase and fine tuning those all important skills.

The Berliner has also found time for two LP’s in ‘Here Today Gone Tomorrow’ and more recently ‘Sick Travellin’ which also provided the theme for his new tour (little bit of German humour there!). His newest release is undoubtedly his finest, tracks like ‘Little by Little’ and ‘Get A Life’ standing out as Fritz classics. He has a unique sound, his delicate grooves complimented by his own soothing vocals.

It will be interesting to see how Friday night’s performance goes down. The German doesn’t have the same sort of driving techno presence as his brother. This will be a much groovier affair but within the confines of the Button Factory we sense the atmosphere will be just right. A big coup for new night JACK who have some exciting visitors on the way in MK and Flashmob as well as our favs Prince Club.

It’s looking like a sellout is on the cards but a small few tickets are still available on RA and Ticketmaster!
