Maya Jane Coles, Magda, Ellen Allien, L.A.W, and the list goes on. Although female artists may represent a small minority of players in the scene, their work and reputation speak for themselves. Another name that has come to feature prominently among this minority in recent times is Leeds-based producer Laura Jones. Jack and Abstract’s Dublin faithful will be privileged with her presence this Friday in the Button Factory.

Jones has experienced a meteoric rise in the underground scene in the last two years. After experiencing a mini enlightenment at Ibiza’s DC10 in 2005, the marketing graduate was left with a burning ambition to succeed in the music industry. 6 years later, her debut track “Love In Me” earned the young Nottinghamshire producer widespread acclaim and fulfilling her ambition was suddenly a very realistic possibility. The Leftroom release represented a house production of the highest calibre, belying Jones’ inexperience, with the support shown from the likes of Richie Hawtin being testament to that. Remix duties undertaken by Maceo Plex and Eats Everything since then have only cemented the tune’s legacy.

From then on, there was no looking back; with releases on Visionquest and Crosstown Rebels reflecting how highly regarded she now is by the biggest labels in house music. Her “Leftroom Presents” compilation mix in 2012 represents a masterclass in deep grooves, flowing effortlessly with an enduring seductiveness. Her style is distinctive as she carves out a deep, synth-based house narrative with pulsing, spacey tech surfacing intermittently. This deep sexy style is borne in Ibiza and features throughout Jones’s meticulous live performances. Her return to Ibiza this year (her second year behind the decks) saw her captivate the crowds at Circoloco at DC10 and on the Terrace at Space. Support on the night comes from local favourites Dave de Valera and Willo Healy and with tickets selling for just €10, there’s no excuse for missing this one.
