When Belgian Stephen Fasano takes to the Button Factory stage this Friday night, he joins an illustrious list of Jack and Pod guests in recent times, including the likes of Joris Voorn, Flashmob and Laura Jones. These sell-out performances have marked out the two promoters as purveyors of the finest tech and house on offer. Fasano’s appearance this week represents a re-routing towards a more feel-good disco vibe, while not sacrificing any of the quality the Friday night faithful have come to expect.

Unless you spent 2011 under a rock, you would have become well-accustomed to The Magician’s breakthrough track emanating from every radio worldwide. With its simple but catchy piano line and Lykke Li’s distinctive vocals underpinned by dreamy synths, his remix of “I Follow Rivers” was a huge commercial success. While his work since then hasn’t received the same kind of mainstream adulation, his “Magic Tape” mix series has earned him substantial support in the disco scene in the last 3 years. Clocking in at around 50mins per tape, each of 37 episodes to date offers a master-class in disco vibes, often so hard to come across in clubs which are increasingly dominated by hard-hitting beats.

While continuing his “Magic Tape” instalments, The Magician has also undertaken remixing responsibilities for the likes of Sam Sparro, RAC and Sebastian Tellier, showcasing his indie-dance, down-tempo and deep house capabilities along the way. He has also teamed up with Yuksek (under his “Peter” alias) for 3 EPs, appearing on Kitsuné and Partyfine. His experience as one half of renowned disco act Aeroplane is clear in his productions as he imbues them with a spacey energy driven by old-school synths and an addictive rhythm.

His latest release “When the Night is Over” is immense, underscoring Fasano’s undeniable reputation for bouncey floor-filling releases. The title track, in particular, has received significant support and remixes from the likes of Claptone, Ejeca and Brodinski, among many others. So get down to the Button Factory on Friday for some groovy disco vibes under the Magician’s spell. https://soundcloud.com/themagician/when-the-night-is-over-full
