Toolroom Records: Miami 2014

13 February 2014

It’s without doubt our favorite two weeks of the offseason! Miami Music Week and the Winter Music Conference signal the start of the countdown to summer and with that it brings a host of the hottest tracks that will destroy dance-floors the world over for the next six months.

Miami also means compilations and here at WWD we love compilations! First up on our agenda is legendary British label Toolroom Records. Toolroom’s prowess in the comp game is well publicised with their Miami releases always a big hit. After a cheeky listen, we can assure you that 2014 will be no different. This time around they’ve delivered 3 diverse cds packed with a fine blend of Deep, Tech and Techno (60 tracks with 30 exclusives in total). Furthermore the compilation is once again sectioned off for vibe with Poolside, Club and Afterclub atmospheres all allocated for.

Poolside, big names likes Breach, Jaymo & Andy George and Toolroom’s go-to man for all things house Weiss provide the necessary jams for maxing out. They’re joined by up and comers like Satin Jackets and Zimmer who provide two of our favourite tracks on the release, ‘For Days’ and ‘Galapagos’.

The club record kicks things up a notch with bombs like Dusky’s ‘Careless’, HS82’s ‘Hot’s Groove’ and Richy Ahmed’s ‘The Drums’. Also featured is a record we spent months waiting for; label head Mark Knight’s remix of Chris Malinchak’s ‘If you got it’ (worth the 5 quid itself!).

Last but certainly not least, we’ve got the sounds of the Afterclub, where the Techno starts to rear its head! Monster tracks from Adrian Hour (‘Automator’), Dosem (‘Urban Shelter’) and Catz Eats Dogz (‘Evil Tram”) round off a quality compilation from Toolroom Crew.

WWD Verdict: Toolroom’s Miami 2014 compilation is an impressive mix of all things house and techno. While styles vary greatly (from the chillest of the chill right through to the hands-up Techno ), the  quality of the tracks never goes amiss. If you’re in the market, make sure to check it out.
