Ten Walls at The Button Factory [Review]

3 April 2014

Last Friday Ten Walls made his much anticipated debut in Dublin and we made our way down to check it out.

The crowd filled as Colin Perkins did his thing and got the crowd grooving with some tasty treats. Set up to the lefthand side of the stage, the warm up acts were that bit closer to the action. Mulljoy followed suit to tee it up for the main act and really got into it, setting a very appropriate downtempo tone with tracks like Dixon & Guy Gerber’s ‘No Distance’ and Marcus Worgull & Peter Pardeike’s ‘Lenoix’. The dance floor was very ready for Ten Walls when he eventually took to the stage just before 2am. Taking centre stage and to a big applause, he stood ahead of his accompanying crystal clear projections and kicked things off with the volume turned up and the house system sounding great.

Throughout the night, he mixed and matched various elements of his tracks, all the while hypnotising the crowd with some fantastic visuals of homo sapiens, elephants, birds and otherworldly creatures. The more popular tracks like ‘Gotham’ and ‘Requiem’ went off unsurprisingly but others like ‘Mongol’ and ‘Epos’ also got a nice response. The set peaked and troughed like any good set should as elements of different tracks were seamlessly combined  and deconstructed to excite and tease the audience. While it was very enjoyable, there were some downsides to the night. The main show was just over an hour long and only two thirds of the crowd appeared to be into the music. That said, he finished on a high with the much anticipated ‘Walking With Elephants’ and gave ‘Requiem’ another spin for the road, both of which received a huge response from the crowd.

All in all, a very enjoyable night of great music and captivating visuals. Hopefully he’ll be back with an even bigger show and more material to showcase. A great booking from the Melodic & DICE guys so props to them.

You can catch Melodic’s next show with Eelke Kleijn in Grand Social tomorrow night. Get the scoop here : Event Page
