Apollonia – Tour à Tour

“Tour à Tour’ (meaning to take turns, or ‘alternate’) represents the idea of a continuous motion of music between us; a never-ending circle that flows and becomes hypnotic...” – Apollonia

After a big summer staring at festivals around the world, at Richie Hawtin’s Enter! phenomenon and on the front cover of the distinguished Mixmag, Apollonia have finally released their debut LP Tour à Tour. The French trio, consisting of Dan Ghenacia, Dyed Soundorom and Shonky, have justly earned stellar individual reputations in the dance world & consequently their combination has elevated the Apollonia project to another level, bringing greater hype and greater expectations. Thus, we were eager to get our hands on the release from the first day of its mention. After a solid week rinsing the record here are our thoughts!

Tour à Tour is Apollonia from first to last. The brief intro immediately sets the tone, ushering in a finely assembled collection of tunes, which spans beautifully from peak-timers to take down tracks and back. The likes of  ‘Sona’ & ‘Un Vrai Portugais’ are solid dj weapons, upfront and energetic. While on the other hand,  the likes of ‘Piano’ offer a more removed listening experience, this particular cut utilising soft atmospheric touches & delicate piano keys to premium effect. ‘Haight Street’ is of the same ilk, a deep tech track with a distinct urban feel to it. Paris Street beats if you will! Doused with police sirens and riding on an entrancing low-end groove it is for us one of the standout pieces on the release. Other must-mention highlights include ‘June’, another hypnotic slice of tech goodness, and ‘Mercato’, a pumper straight from the start.

Overall, we found that the album has much to offer and certainly warrants more than just the one listen. We encourage you to delve inside and partake in the Apollonia adventure, there are plenty of deep grooves to loose yourself in and with the impeccable production quality & insightful melodic touches you’ll find the journey almost ethereal.
