Voyeur – Tonight

This is one of those impulse posts, something heard which instantly MUST be shared with the world. This little beauty comes courtesy of Voyeur, a young duo from the UK who first came my my attention when their remix of Kerri Chandler‘s ‘Mama’ was included in his Watergate EP last year. The duo, made up of Benson Herbert and Leo Picking, first broke through in 2012 with their Bombay Bicycle Club remix which caught the attention of one and all.

Here we are, three years later, with a brand new four track EP which oozes a very ‘in’, smoky and groovy sort of house sound. The first thing that springs to mind is the wide variety of tempo’s in it, with tracks ranging from roughly 110 up to around 122 bpm. Aside from the opening track ‘Tonight’, which is defined by a slow, rolling beat and swinging bassline, the other three tracks are defined by slow paced and jazzy keys that glide dreamily across tape distorted beats. This sort of lo-fi, hip-hop esque house sound is all the rage at the moment and if that’s what they were going for, then they’ve hit the nail on the head. This is a release which seems to have drawn influenced from the likes of Glenn Astro, Delroy Edwards, Harvey Sutherland and maybe some Christopher Rau thrown in for good measure.

It will be out on April 6th and will come out through Kerri Chandler‘s Madhouse imprint.
