Art Department – Fabric 82 [Fabric]

When We Dip
Reviews, Tech House, Techno
19 May 2015

Art Department is a well known project, which has risen to the fore of the tech house scene in recent years. After many successful releases on the likes of Crosstown Rebels and No. 19, the two minds behind it have built a strong reputation, something which has enabled them to perform a huge number of gigs around the world.

Recent developments, however, have seen Jonny White continuing the project in a solo capacity and he sets out to write a new chapter for Art Department with this appearance in the prestigious Fabric mix series.

The mix is not something commercial, it’s filled with easy listening tracks with very tight track selection and it’s the transitions are easily identifiable in listening. There’s a crossing between the introspective approach to music and something more physical, to the desire of dancing. This passage happens in the middle of the mix as the sounds of Fred P’s remix for “Art Department feat. Seth Troxler – Cruel Intentions” flow from the likes of “Brooks Mosher – Get Ready”. Oldschool oriented tracks also feature, where their melancholic taste helps us to get back to reality.

Overall “Fabric 82” reveals a modernism that shifts from house to techno. It shows the artist’s interest in different genres and the ability to integrate each in an intelligent way.

The release will be available from June 22nd 2015.
