Sven Tasnadi returns to Matthias Tanzmann’s illustrious Moon Harbour recordings this month with a highly anticipated second album titled ‘All In’. The release showcases once more the German producer’s knack for crafting emotive, engrossing electronic music. The LP offers up a fine mélange of deep, minimal and tech house, all with the signature Tasnadi touch.
What’s more, the Tech guru took time this week to give us an insight into the concepts behind the project, the intricacies of the creative process and the aims for the project. Furthermore, he shares an exclusive stream of ‘Eighteen’ (listen below!) via When We Dip, one of the standout cuts on the release.
WWD Thanks for taking the time to chat Sven! We’re really enjoying the album.
A lot of producer out there seem to struggle when it comes to putting such a large body of work together all at once. What was your thinking behind putting an album together? What were you hoping to achieve?
“All In” is an Album dedicated for the Club. After my first album two years ago, which was an electronica album, I decided to make an album which fits in more to my DJ sets that I play in clubs. The last three years I was focused on releasing my own stuff mostly through ‘Moon Harbour’. After three successful Solo EP’s it is now the right time for an Album. “All in” (like the name suggests) means to me, that there is all inside that is expected of a Club Album. I wanted to have different songs on it, so I can play them for warm up’s, at peak time or for after hours. In addition, the name refers to my hometown Leipzig. I see no reason to move to Berlin. Everything is just right here.
WWD : What albums in electronic music have impressed you in the past?
Robag Wruhme – Wuzzlebud KK and Ricardo Villalobos – Alchachofa. Both the albums I have listened to a thousand times, they’re very unique kinds of music.
Max Graef’s album ‘Rivers of the Red Planet’ is also awesome.
WWD : Did you produce much on the road or are you more effective in the studio?
I tried it but it does not work for me. I make music only in my studio. That is the best place for me.
WWD : Can you give us an insight into your creative process?
Mostly I just play around with my gear or try to do something new to get inspired for new ideas. Sometimes I watch youtube tutorials about my equipment and try to find something new.
WWD : You have a close relationship with Moon Harbour, in your eyes what makes it an ideal label for you as an artist? Did the label influence the decision to put an album together?
We all are living in the same city and that’s a good factor for me. I can visit the guys in the office and that gives me a better feeling. We all are the similar age and we have the same background. All of us grew up under similar circumstances.
WWD : Can you give us a five-word description of what one can expect to find in the release?
Club, Versatile, Non-Standard,Tasnadi, Album
With such a busy schedule at the moment what is next on the list for you?
I’m fully concentrating on promoting the album. Besides that I’m upgrading my studio at the moment with new equipment. I am working on some new tracks and a side project with a more downbeat/hip-hop influence. On the weekend I am on the road as a DJ.
