September 18th sees the Flash Recordings crew take over Berlin’s Postbahnhof for what will undoubtedly be an exquisite evening of Techno. Joining label head Florian Meindl on the bill are Heron, Jamie Anderson, Ixel, Leghau and Avgusto. This week, WWD sat down with former Soma and KMS man Heron, who made an emphatic return to the Flash imprint earlier this year with ‘Rain Station’ – a powerful three track EP. The German producer gave us a telling insight into the burgeoning crew, his favourite hangouts in Berlin and much more, while providing an impressive 60 minute mixtape to whet the appetite for Friday’s showcase!
WWD: Thanks for joining us! What has Heron been up to this week?
Hello and many thanks for the offer! Well this week was packed with work regarding my radioshow “The Grasshopper Warbler” that appears monthly on around 20 stations worldwide; besides that i was working on a bunch of new tracks.
WWD: Did the summer live up to expectations?
Summer was warm and sunny. Great to relax, but not that good to sit in the studio, unfortunately. I had a few nice gigs, so summer went really well anyways.
WWD: Have the last few months been more studio or show focused for you?
As i said, summer was sunny and hot on most of the days so it was nearly impossible to sit in the studio. I mainly was working on the upcoming shows of “The Grasshopper Warbler” and podcasts. But since the temperature went a bit lower i could start working on fresh tracks.
WWD: You’ll be joining the Flash guys for a label night at Postbahnhof, Berlin Sept 18th, are you looking forward to the showcase?
Definitely i do. I am really happy to be a part of the whole FLASH thing, as Florian is offering a really professional platform flavored with a familiar connection among the members.

WWD: Talk to us about how you first got involved with the Flash crew?
That was directly after my first EP on Kevin Saunderson’s KMS Records when Florian played “Retro Strike”. I dropped him a line and said ‘thanks’; that was the moment when everything started.
WWD: What makes a Flash label night stand out in your eyes?
The familiar vibe, the music.
The FLASH Recordings label collective includes many enthusiastic young artists.
To meet a lot of them at such a night is a really enriching.
WWD: Your 3 favourite hangouts in Berlin?
1. Hühnerhaus 36
2. Bechereck
3. Berghain Garten
WWD: One weapon that has been doing damage on the dancefloor for you recently?
Paul Mac – New Things
WWD: You’ve kindly put a little mix together for us, what can you tell us a little bit about what one will find in there?
The mix includes a few newbies, also some records i played a lot recently and besides that an upcoming track of mine called “Teleferic”.
WWD: Lastly, give us the big dates coming up in your calendar!
Next up is the FLASH night in Berlin, after that i’m going to play at a big anniversary party called “Monopark” in Muenster; i’ll play a special set in the basement of the so called “Fusion Club”. After those two ones, there is just one confirmed date left in Muenster.
So i guess i will spend the colder days and weekends in the studio!
