The David August wave hits Montréal [Review]

After making a splash throughout North America’s West Coast, David August continued his journey towards the East. Chicago was next on his list, and as many Montrealers may remember, this is where he got stuck last year due to a fire in the airport, forcing him to call off his performance at Stereo Afterhours. However, this time around, David August landed safely in Montreal, and was ready to make it up to his fans.

Speaking of fans, all were in attendance at this highly anticipated rendez-vous. As the clock struck 10, the cue had already filled up the pedestrian street of Sainte-Catherine. When we got inside, it was the first time we had seen the Stereo Bar nearing its full capacity so early. As expected, Jesse Zotti selected a good blend of tracks that matched the style of August himself. The party was officially on. Nearly an hour later, at 11:30, if you hadn’t gotten your arm stamped yet, there was no way you were getting past the doormen. At this time, Stereo had already announced on their Facebook page that the event was sold out. Jesse’s set occupied the biggest chunk of the night as his opening act lasted until 1:30. His set was very good and reflected his great taste in music. He was up-to-date with new releases and was also able to dig in his library and drop timeless tracks. One track that especially blew us away was Bedouin’s newest song: Flight of Birds.

After setting the tone the right way, it was David August’s turn to make his long-awaited appearance on one of Montréal’s most beloved dancefloors. His live set was very unique. He played the original melodies of his own productions but was also improvising along the way, thus creating a brilliant work of art. August was faithful to his style as he inserted multiple breaks throughout his set, allowing the audience to momentarily soak up the essence of the various beats. The music stopped at 3:00am and we can assure you all that it could’ve easily gone until sunrise.

Big ups to Stereo for managing the massive crowd, respecting the bar’s capacity and especially for bringing David August back to this beautiful city. The night was a total success. Shortly after all the attendees had cleared the dancefloor, the party was dissolving outside, forming a new cue leading into the next party upstairs, starring the maestro: Danny Tenaglia.
