Riva Starr – Superdope EP [Defected Records]

Riva Starr has always been a dynamic artist in everyone’s eyes. Riva is known globally and is still progressing to this day  as one of the most exciting and influential artists in the underground. Touching down in London in 2008 was a real stepping stone for the Italian, here he had the ability to blend all of his previous styles. He emerged with a new vibe that fulfils who he really is. Without further adieu…

Riva’s latest production is forthcoming on the well established Defected Records. It’s a mixture of many different styles, which he has gained over his travels. The first track leading into the EP and defining the outlook on it is ‘Superdope’. Superdope is a rolling cut consisting of  a bouncy bass-line complimented with some well arranged vocal hits to keep the track interesting and moving throughout its duration. On the way up to the second bridge a combination of synths and pads are used to anticipate the main drop. Then the track is lifted into the climax with a solid groove of drums, bassline and vox hits.

Talking about bouncy bass-lines the next track ‘Body Moving’ consists of some very basic elements but they have been manipulated in a way to give an interesting flow. From analog textures to swinging cowbells, Riva creates an old-school groove and a beautiful connection between each element to keep this EP moving.

Rolling out with the one track that signifies Rivas sound perfectly. ‘Raw Feel’ personifies just what London has done for this man and how it has allowed him to express his true style. Two key ingredients in this track would be based around the 90s piano riff accompanied by another 90s vocal. Combining both of these ingredients in the correct manner is destined to be nothing but a banger.

Release date: 25 January 2016
