Montréal’s Igloofest Closes Out Tenth Anniversary with Michael Mayer & Tale Of Us

15 February 2016

We had a blast last weekend at Igloofest and as the festival was about to close its doors until next year, it was our last chance to celebrate their 10th anniversary and see some of our favourite artists.

The opening act was entrusted to Magnanime, a local talent who played a unique blend of minimal and tech house which put us in a rare hypnotic vibe. The quality of the sounds was on point and we really enjoined  her comforting percussion. After we had a good taste of Magnanime’s delicious mix, we headed to the Videotron stage to hear Maher Daniel and Ostrich, two beloved local DJs, perform back to back.

They took the stage all night long and truly built a foot-stumping vibe that instantly made us dance and smile, giving us the energy to overcome the cold weather. It was nice to see that those guys knew exactly what Igloofest is all about and they adapted there track selection for the more diversified crowd that attended the event. An hour into their set, we left the stage to see how the party was going on the other side where, Kompakt Records co-founder, Michael Mayer was taking control.

When we arrived, the dancing troupe was growing slowly, grooving to the delightful vibrations of the German Maestro. Mayer was delivering some sweet tech house with banging bass-lines that really kept us moving effortlessly. In parallel to the light show that was intensifying exponentially, Michael’s set took an evolving pace and as the end of his set was approaching, he subtly transitioned to some light techno preparing us for the final appearance.

Closing the night was one member of the Italian duo Tale of Us who conducted an intense techno mix that drove everyone in an outer space state of mind. He handed over galactic harmonies that pierced through the masses as the bass was filling the venue. My highlight of the night was when he dropped North Star, an original production from the duo which I always love to hear.

If you were there, then you know what I’m talking about, for those who missed it, I’m sure Igloofest will come back next year with a lineup that won’t disappoint you!
