Esteemed techno masters Pig&Dan return with their highly anticipated fourth album, “Modular Baptism” released through their own label Elevate which is due to be released tomorrow. Before the albums release we got a chance to sit down with Pig&Dan to talk about their new album, their beginnings and to discuss their own label Elevate.
I’m thrilled to have the chance to sit down and talk to both of you today, how are you Igor and Dan?
We are on a great vibe currently celebrating a Number one on the overall Beatport charts has been in incredible moment for us : )
I’m curious to know about your partnership, everyone knows that you met on a plane back in correct me if I am wrong but 1993. My question is, how did meeting on a plane turn into the creation of Pig&Dan?
Basically a couple of years after our chance meeting on a flight a mutual friend suggested I meet a producer/DJ called Pig as we were both into the same sort of thing. We met and even when we did we didn’t recall the first encounter. After leaving his place it dawned on me and we both said we have to get in the studio and try something. The synergy was there right from the start and here we are years later.
What were you both doing before you partnered up as Pig&Dan?
We were both deep in our own musical paths working in studios and DJing all over the place learning our trade.
Do you think your sound has changed from when you first started?
Absolutely, we’ve pushed our personal envelopes. Saying that I like to think you can still point out a Pig&Dan tune when you hear it. I hope we still hold our identity.
I really like your Universal Love EP, do you have a certain process when it comes to producing and would you say it’s much easier or harder to produce tracks as a duo rather than on your own?
No rules really, we write everywhere we can including planes. Ill write something or Pig will and we take it from there. We are kind of experimental and then see what comes up and if it works or not. We never design our music or decide lets write that sort of genre..
You’re set to release your fourth album “Modular Baptism”, what can you tell us about the album and why did you chose that particular name for it?
Well it was all about hands on this time, we baptised a lot of modular synths (hence the title) and its all about performance instead of in the box automatons. We are playing live and twisting all sorts of knows right throughout. Its an album that is much purer and back to the roots.
Will you be doing any tours with the release of the new album and more importantly will we be seeing you in Dublin any time soon? We hope the answer is yes to both of those questions : )
We have lots of dates coming up and lots of festivals too, all our latest dates can be found here: www.piganddan.com – Unfortunately nothing booked for Dublin right now, but hopefully that will change!
You also started up your own label ‘Elevate’, was this something you always wanted to do or what sparked off the idea?
We’ve always had a label running but had bad luck with past partners sadly. Finally we have this one right where we want it with the crew we hoped for running and producing for it… Let’s ELEVATE
Do you find yourself spending more time involved with the label rather than producing or do both work seamlessly around each other?
Because there’s two of us we try to delegate things properly so we have the most time for concentrating on our own projects luckily.
What can we expect to hear from Pig&Dan this year?
Lots of music, including some releases on Drumcode, Diynamic and ELEVATE of course. Plus all of this we will be playing some incredible gigs I’m glad to announce. Look out for us at the opening of Space Ibiza which is a massive honour plus playing Awakenings with Carl Cox in Amsterdam.
I know you both are incredibly busy so I really appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule to chat with WhenWeDip. I wish you all the best with the new album and I hope we can talk again soon. Thanks again Igor and Dan!
THANK YOU !!!
