UK imprint Underground Audio (home to the likes of System2, Ki Creighton & Solardo) welcomes inimitable Crosstown Rebels regular SIS to the family this June as the Germany-based producer steps up to remix ‘Unidos’ from the forthcoming EP of rising producr Yacine Dessouki – a release which also features the talents of Manchester artist Rudosa and Mobilee Records’ Ray Okpara. Ahead of SIS’ upcoming appearance on the label, he took five to chat with When We Dip, topics include his debut this season on the white isle, his new downbeat project and much more 🙂
WWD: Thanks for joining us Burak! Where in the world are you right now and what have you been working on this week?
Hey! Thank you for the request! I am just back from Belgium, the Extrema Outdoor Festival where i had my own shelter and played two 12 hour sets. Now I am back in Berlin- due some new projects I am actually commuting between Spain and Germany.
WWD: Your set to release a brand new remix on Underground Audio next month, reworking Yacine Dessouki’s ‘Unidos’. Can you talk us through the process of putting that track together?
I really liked the original, thats why I gave all my heart into my interpretation . It´s a lovely summer tune where the meaning of crying with one and laughing with the other eye comes true..
WWD: Was there a particular vision in your mind as created the remix?
No. Like many musicians I just do music if it calls me or touches somehow. While the producing process the journey turns into his own direction.
WWD: In your eyes, how would you compare the remix process to creating your own originals?
Well, I would say, no rules!
WWD: You just played your first gig of the season in Ibiza at the Nonstop showcase at Pacha, how was it? Will we see you back on the white isle again soon?
Playing at Pacha was so overwhelming although it was still side season. On top having my Debut with my music and soul buddy Alex Kennon, the great Pirupa and my old friend Skizzo .
WWD: Do you feel your sound is at home under the Spanish sun and in the local venues?
Well, this question should be answered by the dancers or the promoters from this crazy Island. But as I moved to Spain, I can say at least I do feel at home under the Spanish sun. LoL.
WWD: Is there one particular place you’d love to play?
Of course I would love to drop some records at DC10.
WWD: Talking traveling, are you the kind of person who enjoys embracing different cultures or is the traveling element of music something you find an inconvenience?
I love exploring all cultures! That´s why I prefer local places and restaurants instead of tourist spots. I don’t like international food in any country, I prefer to eat in the real traditional spots, the local kitchen.
WWD: What’s motivating SIS musically in 2016?
My biggest motivation this year is definitely the meeting with Gennady Tkachenko. The man with the golden voice. We’ve started an improvisation downbeat project and are getting ready for live shows.
WWD: You have the honour of hosting your own tent at Extrema Outdoor Belgium. You’re playing two twelve hour set with guests. First off, what’s the secret to a strong vibe in a marathon set?
No idea! Back in the days I used to play 12 hours sets with just vinyl. So for me it was something kind of familiar.
WWD: How much planning, if any, would go into a performance like that?
Too much planning is killing the flow! Nobody can plan the situation of this special moments in any venue. I try to feel the dynamic and go with the flow of the moment.
WWD: What criteria did you use to select your special guests?
First of all sure I checked who else is there and has time to spin some tunes. But in the end at this kind of festivals there are always lots of spontaneous gatherings.
WWD: Apart from the upcoming remix on Underground Audio, what else have you got on the horizon?
My next Ep which is a nonstop record Ep. Including a Pirupa & Alex Kennon Rmx and a DOP Rmx. Then an Ep on Get Physical and Ibiza Global Radio Rec for the end of the year.
