Montreal mainstay Piknic Electronik is fresh off an impressive triple header, igniting the long weekend just past with an onslaught of groove and mystical moments. The MTL tastemaker, which has ballooned from a minor independent initiative to a global entity (with expansions in the likes of Melbourne, Dubai, and Santiago recently), came out all guns blazing as they welcomed Claptone then Misstress Barbara before closing out the festivities with an almighty combination in George Fitzgerald and Bicep. The burgeoning outfit treated the sun-drenched metropolis to three sucessive days of top notch electronic delights.

The When We Dip team dropped by Monday afternoon to soak up the vibes. To our delight the energy and positive, open community behind the out-door parties persists. Size has brought challenges and extra scrutiny but a consistent focus on programming and the little things which make the occasions so special has ensured that the experience still excites and enthrals. UK House & Techno maestros Bicep marshalled the main-stage like the pros they are, under the beaming sunshine. They delighted the crowd with a melange of delicious disco and funk tinged house cuts before moving into darker territory. Elsewhere on the Videotron Stage, Beachclub’s Tizi held court treating an overflowing following to a sleek mix of groovy tech house tunes, proper chunky weapons. George Fitzgerald closed out the day as the crowd surged and the sun fell, proving once more the Piknic magic is still burning bright. Tune of the weekend goes to Belfast boys Bicep, who rinsed the blissful ‘Visa’ by one Sandboards. Check it out first track below from their recent Boilerroom set.
