Frenchman Groj releases entrancing new EP on Montreal imprint Fauna & Flora

The latest instalment from Montreal-based imprint Flora & Fauna comes courtesy of up and coming artist Groj. The Frenchman, who has previously released on the likes of Traum Schallplatten & Box Records, turns in a splendid two tracker for the Flora segment led by the soothing deep roller ‘Light Years’. It’s a brooding cut with an ethereal atmosphere stemming from some stellar synth touches and an impeccably use of the spectrum. It’s a slow-building journey that ignites with the combination of the melodic lines, Groj’s dulcet tones, a thumping kick drum and a warm, consuming bass-line.

Track two ‘Woollongong’ is a more powerful affair, bringing a thunderous kick drum and right walloping percussive ensemble to the table. The track displays similar nifty synth and once more impressive mixing as Groj builds a world of his own in this track of great depth. It’s easy to see just why we’re hearing so much about his talents. Microtrauma steps up to give his remix treatment to the b-side, rendering a more up-tempo / hi-octane offering fuelled by some fine arpeggiators and the splendid atmospherics from the original mix.
