Away from the Antics: Reset Robot on Tobacco Docks, and his upcoming EP releases

1 November 2017

Reset Robot is an artist that’s been turning heads for a while now. With his recent ‘Earth or Immortality‘ EP on Sasha‘s Last Night on Earth, the talented Brit headed to London’s Tobacco Docks at the weekend for Drumcode Halloween, the all day techno party that’s become synonymous with the end of October.

So ahead of his set we had a quick chat with David to get the low down on what he’s been up to recently. Catch the interview below!

WWD: Hi David it’s Olly here from When We Dip, thanks for sitting down with us for a chat today! Where are you in the world right now? And what did you get up to last night?

RR: I’m in Portsmouth, and last night I drank a can of IPA and watched Mindhunter.

WWD: Sounds good I go to uni in Portsmouth! So recent productions have included your ‘Earth or Immortality’ EP on Sasha’s Last Night on Earth. Have you got anything else in the pipeline that’s soon to be released that you can tell us about?

RR: I’m just about to release an EP on Whistleblower Records and I’ve got a new release dropping soon on Truesoul. I also have some remixes coming up, including one for Andrea Oliva on Out Of Mind and one for Steve Bug on Knee Deep in Sound.

WWD: Excellent we’ll keep our ears out! Now then the big one is coming up this Saturday with Drumcode Halloween. You’re no stranger to Tobacco Docks, so from a DJs perspective what do you think makes it such a successful venue?

RR: It’s hard to put my finger on it but it’s a combination of the venue, crowd and music. The venue is amazing, and Drumcode has such a dedicated and up for it crowd. There’s always a great selection of DJ’s, with each room offering a different vibe.

WWD: Absolutely right mate, the venue definitely makes it. Now compared to other European countries such as the Netherlands or Germany, techno is held in a higher regard there than it is in the UK. As a techno artist in the UK,  would you say that’s a fair statement? And if yes or no, why do you feel that way?

RR: I think it’s a fair comment but techno is definitely on the rise in the UK. I’m playing more and more over here, which is a positive thing. It’s more in the culture in Holland and Germany, whereas we have house music more ingrained in ours.

WWD: Yeah this is true, it’d definitely on the up. Now you’ve released tracks on the techno scenes biggest labels and have played all over the world. For up and coming producers that are trying to make it in the scene, what advice would you give them?

RR: Network, network, network and patience.

WWD: Wise words! And finally, if you could go back to back with one other DJ, from the past or the present, who would you go for and why?

RR: Josh Wink or Matthew Dear! I’ve been a fan these guys for years, and I think it would work musically.

Catch Reset Robot at Dublin’s very own Pygmalion on the 4th of  November. Event page here.
