Thee FFF AKA Felix Da Housecat & HOOPALAÏ showcase Chicago heart and Detroit mind in new ‘Contradiction’ EP

Thee FFF make a highly anticipated return to the spotlight this November following their 2016 outing on Lee Foss’ Repopulate Mars imprint, which saw them remixing James Curd & Diz cut ‘It’s So Much Fun’. The trio comprises of three seasoned veterans in the form of Felix Da Housecat and two Montreal natives François Lebaron (Trigger, Victims Music Compnay) and Frédéric Laurier (aka DJ Pfreud), who also collaborate under the HOOPALAÏ moniker. The crew reconvene this month for an exquisite two track release titled the ‘Contradiction’ EP. In addition to getting our hands on an exclusive full premiere of lush groover ‘All This’, we caught up with guys to get the lowdown on their collaboration.

How did Chicago veteran Felix Da Housecat and Montreal’s Francois Lebaron and Frederic Laurier come together to form Thee FFF? How did you meet; where does your story begin?

François and Felix were both DJing in Mexico on the same weekend and bumped into each other by coincidence. François introduced himself to Felix, as he works quite often with Felix’s booking agent for other projects. They connected right away… well after a few mezcal shots! Later that year, Lebaron had Felix play in Montreal at Club Peopl for the Blackkout Tour. The night was a huge success! By 2015, on a hot summer night, Felix was back in Montreal and hooked up with François and Fred for a BBQ at the studio. Good food, laughs, drum machines and synths, ideas flowed and Thee FFF was born.

For sure, this industry forges many great friendships, but not all of them result in creating ‘a band’. What drew you 3 to the decision of making a music project?

When we first jammed on that summer night, “All This” came naturally (this was the first song we made). Then, through other sessions we produced a few other tunes and we thought, sharing that music would be a good idea. The result was:Thee FFF.

On November 24, Thee FFF will put out their 2nd release — ‘Contradiction’. Tell us a bit about the EP and how it showcases your individualities.

Our individual creative ways to make music works well together. Both on Contradiction and All This, you can hear Felix’s Chicago synth and bassline hooks, as well as the Hoopalaï’s (Francois & Frédéric) style of arrangements, drums and grooves. Fun fact, the three of us got a Chicago heart but a Detroit mind, and all this in our beautiful city of Montreal!

Thee FFF – ‘Contradiction’ EP is out November 24th, 2017.
