Today, we caught up with a very promising group of musicians called ‘PAAX’. The trio is a project born in Tulum that flows through the energetic Mexican land into the world creating music from the soul. They share their thoughts about their new EP, their home and much more. Enjoy !
WWD : Hey PAAX, it’s good to have a chat with you today! Tell us, what does a regular day look like for you guys?
We wake up early, breath, stretch, breakfast and start with the music. Then, go to work. when we come back from work we see the sunset, get inspired and go back to the studio.
WWD : Congrats on the release of the new AYE EP. What’s inspired these productions?
We take advantage of the moments of inspiration to create, things do not always come out easily, sometimes we have those real moments when everything flows, and bring that happiness of having finally finished the work, and then to be able to share through it our feelings …music continues to evolve as we do, the direction of musical fusion inspires us to create music with our own sound, with the sense of achieving unions between different cultures. Music today reaches places that we can not imagine.
WWD : How did you come to connect with Earthly Delights?
We feel identified with the sound of the label, we follow them, we admire people with ideas, the label and their artists have them.We like to be part of the family and the musical direction.
WWD : We were very excited to share the full premiere of ‘Iwuri’. Can you share with us where your head was at as you were putting the track together?
Our head at that moment is not anywhere other than the sound we want to achieve, for us these are magical moments of inspiration in our studio in MEXICO where the energy of this land with its original sounds mix with our cadences finally reaching the sound of this Ep, having a natural harmony and at the same time a deep sound.
WWD : What is your first memory of music? Did you all grow up in a musical home?
We grew up in a place where there was a lot of fusion, we were born with folklore, “palladas” with guitars and “bombos legüeros” & tango, then we grew up and started playing instruments like drums & percussion.
WWD : Tell us a bit about where you grew up? What was it like for electronic music?
We grew up in small cities, in the surroundings of Gran Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires was very strong in terms of electronic music, and we started working in the electronic scene from an early age, many styles were heard but in Buenos Aires always the progressive was very strong.
WWD : What are you most excited about in 2018?
What most excites us is traveling with our music and being able to share this energy with everyone. This year will be a year of travel with PAAX and with this we will be able to know many cultures to continue inspiring and renewing ourselves constantly.
WWD : What gear are you using most in the studio right now?
For production we use Logic & Ableton, we record most of the instruments like guitars, basses, keyboards and some percussions, the rest we created it with Maschine,Arturia, Juno 60 basically.
WWD : What is your all-time favorite track?
As music lovers, it is a very difficult question to answer, but because PAAX is not just one people, but in that infinite list, there will be songs from Pink Floyd and its progression, lyrics and environments that influenced part of the electronic music, until classics of Chemical Brothers. There is not a track that we can choose because we listen to very varied music such as bossa, funk, classical music, pop, jazz, flok and they all have their jewels.
WWD : What do you seek for listeners to feel when they listen to your music?
What we want is to transmit the energy and be able to transport them to another dimension, forget where they are and let them flow to something bigger, our tracks are not all equal, we have different styles and we can go from latin low percussions to some deep melodies with grooves arpeggios. The idea is to tell a story and go through different moods always reaching the fullness.
WWD : Can you share one habit you’ve started or quit recently?
We start to go to the top of the mountains to see the sunsets everyday
WWD : Cheers for speaking to us today PAAX!
