3 January 2018

Kicking off 2018 with an exhilarating exclusive from Brooklyn-based rising talent Myles Avery. The synth-laden corker ‘Weaving’ features on an exciting new three track EP from the US artist, signifying quite the journey for the trumpeter by training. Avery used his hand built home studio to send samples crawling across hypnotic rhythms with meticulous, almost algebraic, composition.

The release follows up on an impressive 2017, which saw Avery feature on the Spotify US viral 50 Chart for his work on Cherry Wine” – Overcoats. Now with the upcoming release of his debut EP ‘Weaving’, his sights are firmly set on pushing the boundaries of his solo capacities.

Check out the official video for ‘Weaving’ exclusively on When We Dip today!

Speaking with When We Dip on the influences behind the clip, Myles explained “I’ve been really inspired by the way movement parallels and can be affected by digital processing, especially in art that crosses or combines several different technologies and media – dancers waving liquid-like, 3D projections with their movements, for example (As in this amazing piece that was at BAM a few years ago). I love how this contrast fits with the social moment we’re at right now, with mixed media dictating so much of our day to day lives. I was also personally inspired by a parallel moment in my life where things were feeling very stuck, and caught in between many different lives that I was living simultaneously. So I sat down with Kate Ladenheim – choreographer and artistic director of The People Movers, Daniel Lewis – an amazing photographer and editor @itsforgotham – and Chandler Simms who is a brilliant producer and photographer as well – to brainstorm around those visual references and themes of the track. After a variety of options we narrowed the vision down to what you see here”.

Catch Myles Avery on January 8th alongside Soren Bryce and Harpooner in Brooklyn, brought to you by PopGun Presents. Event info here.
