A Night in Review: Arcadia London 2018

14 May 2018

The first May bank holiday saw Arcadia celebrate it’s tenth anniversary. And for such an occasion, London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park was set once again for a full day of raving antics. The infamous spider stage stood strong, alongside the fully immersive Reactor arena, and the weather was absolutely spot on.

And as usual, we’re here to give you our rundown of our favourite records from the day. So here we go!

Track No. 1 – Hugo Massien ‘Swerve 2’ – E Beamz

English duo Dusky should be known as old reliable. Because whenever they play, and wherever they play, the vibe they bring seems to always be absolutely spot on. They rolled out some of their timeless classics, but as time went on, this horrible number was brought out. Eerie yet bouncy, and reminiscent of Daniel Avery’s ‘Naive response’, this one by Hugo Massien lit up the Arcadia stage.

Track No. 2 – Antoine Clamaran ‘Take Off’ – Pool E Music

The Reactor arena. Fully immersive, it felt like something out of a video game. The DJ platform was in the centre of the tent, as revelers surrounded it on all sides. Eats Everything was in the midst of his set, and threw out this one right from the old school. 2006 this was released, and twelve years later it’s still doing damage. Acid twinged and slightly distorted, it can’t help but remind us of Fedde Le Grand’s ‘Detroit’. Pure weaponry.

Track No. 3 – Green Velvet ‘Flash’ (Eats Everything remix) – Relief

Another one from the talented Bristolian. Again the Reactor arena, night time. And he whips this heavy duty roller. We can remember first hearing this at Creamfields 2016, courtesy of Patrick Topping, and two years later, as expected, it’s still a blinder. The memorable “nitrous oxide” vocal adds all sorts of eeriness to the track, but it’s the relentlessly fast hi hats that make it. Top stuff from Eats.

And that was that! Arcadia 2018 has been and gone, but it’s safe to say the tenth anniversary celebration in London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park was one to be remembered. Till next time Arcadia!

LWE are back in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on the 18th and 19th of August for Elrow Town London, featuring Paul Kalkbrenner, Richy Ahmed and Steve Lawler. Tickets available here
