We recently had a chat with Upercent about his new ‘VUIT EP’ released on May 25th on microCastle. He tells us about his personal approach in the making of the EP and his summer for 2018. Enjoy!
WWD : Hi Upercent, thanks for sitting down with us for a chat today! So, first off, where are you in the world right now? And what have you been up to recently?
Right now? I’m in Mallorca, packing to come back to my own region for a short time, Valencia…next destination? I don’t know and I like it!
WWD : What does a regular day look like for you right now?
When I’m not travelling, my life is quite normal, all time around music, but not just producing rather listening and checking inspirations, also practicing sport and enjoying free time (if any) haha 🙂
WWD : Your first microcastle release dropped on May 25th — ‘VUIT EP’. Tell us a bit about the EP and how it showcases your personal approach.
Vuit is a real special EP for me thus for the sound and for the background it means to me. The first track ‘VUIT’ is like my natural style, I like to talk about timeless music, this is an example for me, and it’s the kind of music I like to do. ’TANGO’ is a villain mix between styles, it’s made by old synths and crispy sounds navigating through a short history. ‘SUBMISSIVE’ is a collaboration I did with KnowKontrol 2 years ago, a special track too, not four-to-the-floor, but deeper and with more electronic sounds.
WWD : What made microcastle the ideal home for this EP?
I’m a big fan of things done the right way and I’m a perfectionist too, I like the care to the very last detail and microCastle could made this possible by treating it such a good way that I can only have good words for Mitch (owner of the label) and his team, without any doubt, one of the best professionals in the industry I’ve encountered so far. Let’s not forget the EP has been released on vinyl, cassette and digital, with merchandising such as t-shirts and handbags! Can you ask for more? 🙂
WWD : Chaim provides a remix on ‘Submissive ft. KnowKontrol’. What was the first thought that came to your mind when you first heard the remix?
I loved it from the first beat, he has given an unexpected turn that fits perfectly to close the EP, the hypnotic and darkness captivated me.
WWD : Beside your microcastle EP, your recent productions have included your huge ‘Parlem’ EP on Kompakt. Have you got anything else in the pipeline that’s soon to be released that you can tell us about?
I recently finished a new EP, it will be released not before 2019 in a big label, therefore, I still can’t reveal much about it, but I can say it’s big! 🙂 Forthcoming a huge remix by Jimi Jules on my track ‘Pulsacions’ released on Sincopat and very soon on Watergate Records too!
WWD : What are you most excited about for the Summer of 2018?
Without doubts, my appearance on the Fusion Festival and Nation of Gondwana, 2 bigs festivals in Germany, and my debut at Hearth Ibiza.
WWD : Do you have any particular goals you’d love to achieve before the end of the year?
I always have big goals, never little, they keep me going every day.
WWD : What aspects of the music industry and community are keeping you motivated right now?
The desire of all the people linked to the industry to stay alive keeps me motivated, it’s a complicated world, but when you love music there is something that flows inside that creates situations, places and environments that surprise me every day, all this is magical.
