A Night in Review: LWE presents Cuttin Headz at Tobacco Dock

19 October 2018

Our first experience of an LWE Cuttin Headz event was in May when the London party starters took over Old Fountain Studios. Fast forward a few months, and the team were once again bringing The Martinez Brothers’ esteemed label to another sprawling warehouse space: Tobacco Dock.

The standout experience from the day had to be the Fuse takeover of the Car Park. The perfect backdrop for that  Fuse sound, the rolling beats from the likes of Ben Rau, Rich Nxt, Archie Hamilton and Enzo Siragusa were key to the success of the party. From unreleased gems to iconic records from Fuse’s back catalogue, the soundtrack on offer was incredibly exciting. With the more minimal aspects of house and techno on offer, we were in for a real treat, so we’ve listed our favourite tracks from the day below.

Track No. 1 – Enzo Siragusa and Martin Buttrich ‘Dangerman’ – Fuse

Having cropped in up in a variety of Enzo’s sets in recent months, the eagerly anticipated release of the Three Squared EP came on the 9th of October. The leading track, Dangerman, is a serious heater, a record that features an almost cat and mouse like bassline, as the riding beep moves up and down in pitch. It’s certainly a groover and one that set the Car Park on fire.

Track No 2 – Iglesias and Roowax ‘Keep on dancin’ – NoexcuseRecords

Archie Hamilton. Our top pick from the day hands down. The man’s a wizard, not just with track selection, but mixing as well. We’re in the Car Park, it’s around 8 o’clock, and a warming vocal sample starts to tell us to “Keeeep on dancinnnn”. Boom, we’re hit with a wobbling beep, reminiscent of a woodpecker pecking, some stinging hi-hats, and the occasional pulse of an acid sounding blob. Words can’t do it justice – this one you’ve got to hear.

Track No. 3 – Enzo Siragusa ‘Flexin’ – Fuse

Old but gold. Well, not that old. But this rolling number from Fuse’s back catalogue is still certainly capable of unleashing some serious heat. Reminiscent of ‘Desire‘, the rolling bassline and intermittent horn sounds are far from sounding overdone. With perfect hi-hats and the occasional eerie sounding synth, the variation in this record keeps things fresh right the way through.

As the Fuse sound continues to grow and it’s parties develop, we couldn’t be happier for the East London outfit. Taking over the Car Park of Tobacco Dock is no easy task and to create the unique Fuse atmosphere with so many people? Well, that can only be something special.

The Fuse Ten Year Anniversary will be taking place at Studio 338 on November 24th with an afterparty at 93 Feet East. All tickets available here.
