London-based duo Melody’s Enemy make their Phobiq debut with a stellar EP entitled “Open Your Eyes”. Evident from the outset is their attention to vocal work and their abilities in combining “song” writing within a dancefloor framework. The title track “Open Your Eyes” kicks off the release with feel good techno crunks and fizz in abundance, juxtaposed with an exquisite vocal track reminiscent of 60’s rock psychedelia. Next up is “Sermon“, a regal techno stepper with added soul. Layers of emotion and warmth intertwine with the vocal in beautiful melancholy. The EP finishes with “ What Kind Of Future?”. Futurism is a theme often embraced in techno, but with all the uncertainty in the world is it ever questioned just what kind of future that will be? Sonically this is a stark inquisition of our world future featuring dark, abrupt stabs, driving arps and thought-provoking vocal shots.
