2020 was set to be a very promising year for for Øostil (Antü), with a confirmed tour set to bring him to more than 40 international shows including Afterlife Ibiza, Dubai, Germany, Beirut, Barcelona, Switzerland, a tour of India and a tour of Latin America (Argentina, Brazil and Chile), which was suspended on the way to the airport by the announcement of the quarantine.
The pandemic put the world on hold and Øostil directed all his energy to the studio working on new material, which was recently released on emblematic labels such as Renaissance, Bedrock and Atlant… closing a very solid year on a musical level.
EPIPHANY was also launched, his new podcast series that aims to generate a communion between Øostil and the guest artist, a kind of b2b show presented in podcast format where a more eclectic vision of this communion is captured. With this platform Øostil found a great way to support emerging artists and show new productions. EPIPHANY is not only an exponential music platform but the projection is that it will be its own line of parties worldwide in 2022 and his own label. What’s more, together they will soon be presenting a new line of clothing and merchandise.
At the moment Øostil is focused and working on a collaboration with an artist from Amsterdam that will be released in the first quarter of 2021 along with a video clip on a well-known European label.
2021 for Øostil looks set to be a year of growth with Bullit Agency handling his worldwide bookings. While the massive parties in the Tulum season have been canceled, he had the opportunity to perform alongside Artbat, Wurtz, and Red Axes at parties with strict protocol controls and restricted capacity. As the situation improves, it will be a year of highly anticipated shows and releases and you can keep an eye out for his announcements on his Instagram account here.
WWD: Hello Antü, thanks for chatting with us. When did you start you project Øostil ?
About 3 years ago, the debut was on May 12th, 2018 at Afterlife Mexico City with Tale Of Us, Mind Against & Agents Of Time.
WWD: Who influenced your style?
After many years in the underground industry, my style was mutating until I reached a progressive, minimalist and organic sound. Definitely my main influences since the last 10 years I would tell you that my main inspiration is Tale Of Us.
WWD: When did you discover yourself different?
Honestly, I have not discovered it yet .. but I try to generate a change not only with my artistic and musical vision but also by going back a little to the origins supporting emerging artists and returning a little of what was given to me .. I think today and more in these moments we have to act differently to obtain other results.
WWD: How do you define yourself in 3 adjectives?
Responsible, Dreamer, Sincere.
WWD: What do you think is your formula for success?
I would like to know… hahah but it definitely helps to be applied and have an action plan, be dedicated and have the goals and objectives very clear .. So whatever happens along the way, enjoy the process.
WWD: You’ve recently played in Tulum, Mexico. What attracted you to Tulum?
Since the last 15 years I have been visiting this paradise, without a doubt it is a place that attracts me energetically, its green spaces, its history and its people. From the first day I fell in love and without a doubt it is a point of the world in which many colleagues and great festivals like Zamna meet every end of the year.
WWD: What has the pandemic given you on an artistic and personal level?
Without a doubt time to be at home and work on creative aspects in the studio. To be able to collect with nature and look inward. Work with coaching, yoga and definitely slow down a bit to be more open to the changes that we have to go through.
WWD: What do you think will be the trend in the musical field after the pandemic that limits the crowds?
Undoubtedly our industry will be the most affected but the passion that all of us who love music have will lead us to reconnect in different ways. I believe that outdoor events will help a lot in this process and the trend will undoubtedly be less capacity. but a more select / understanding public. I hope soon the current situation in the world improves so that we can recover the experiences of meeting all of us as it happened in the near past.
WWD: What have been the recent highlights for you?
I just released with HeÎk a new remix and Ep on Renaissance, Atlant & Bedrock. For me personally, the most emblematic labels closing a very solid year on a musical level. EPIPHANY was also presented, the new podcast series that aims to generate a communion between Øostil and the guest artist, a kind of b2b show presented in podcast format where a more eclectic vision of this communion is captured. With this platform I found a good way to support emerging artists and show new productions. EPIPHANY is not only an exponential music platform but the projection is that it will be his line of parties worldwide in 2022 and his new label. Together they will soon present the new line of clothing and merchandising.
WWD: Are you considering doing collaborations? If positive, does anyone in particular?
Personally, I need to have my time for my own creations, but music is sharing and personally I am not closed to being able to join forces with artists who inspire me.
WWD: What plans do you have for the coming months?
The next few months I will be producing and resting. Being positive, I hope that soon enough, I will be traveling a lot around the world with dates that were rescheduled in 2020. It is a time to enjoy the possibilities that this wonderful country offers us, recharge our batteries and prepare for our challenges.
WWD: And internationally?
My intention is as governments allow it to start moving through areas such as India, Dubai, Egypt where the events will gradually be returning. You have to adapt to the current situation but always taking into account the limitations and risks of traveling.
WWD: What is your goal as an artist?
I think something that I always try is to enjoy the process .. that makes me be in focussed for all my objectives.
WWD: Thanks for speaking with us!
Thank you !
