Despite everything, 2020 has been a productive year for Anja Schneider, who has been grateful to find continued creativity during the testing time in lockdown. With added time in the studio, this facilitated her experimental side into full force. Whether it be the more 90s progressive vibes in ‘Seduction’ and ‘Mitte’, or the new school breakbeat sidestep in ‘Closing’ featured on her last release ‘Boundless Beings’. Anja is constantly trying new thing, evolving and adapting to the forever changing landscapes of music.

This latest two-tracker EP ‘Turning My Head’ out on her label Sous Music has a more familiar deep house blueprint. “I found that the experimentation I played with on my previous two releases has given me the confidence to introduce more creative flare or create musical moments within this style” says Anja.

The title track ‘Turning My Head’ is built on a low-slung tribal rhythm. There is a deep, growling bass that provides a contrast with the classic spoken vocal and dancing flute tones. “I wanted to create a slow burning progression in the track that evokes the humid thumping heartbeat of late-night energy charged dark rooms which I have missed so much these past 9 months” adds Anja.

‘Strange Case’ is a jacked-up deep house track with differently instrumented phases that use sounds that stand out like the enchanted plucked strings or the harmonic steel drum reverberations.

You can now listen to the full premiere of ‘Strange Case’ exclusively on When We Dip. Enjoy!
