Sound Avenue’s second offering of 2021 finds Pedro Capelossi returning for his first solo EP. From progressive minded roots, Pedro’s sound evolved with deeper, more organic sensibilities. This new sonic approach has already landed the Brazilian born, Barcelona based artist releases via Pablo Bolivar’s Seven Villas, Dream Culture, RYNTH and The Purr. Having first appeared on Sound Avenue in 2020 with the Madloch & Subnode collaborations ‘Turmeric Latte’ and ‘Vanilla Noise’, Pedro now returns to the Belgian imprint with ‘So Long’ alongside a remix from Esteble.

Beginning what promises to be a fruitful year, Pedro presents the late-night sensibilities of ‘So Long’. Captivating from the start, it’s perfectly sculpted beats are warm and powerful, anchoring what is a chunky yet fluid foundation. Crafted with precision and care, layers of hypnotic percussion are blanketed with textural drifts and misty pads. Intrigue peaks as the main break unfolds, with hazy harmonic concepts and fuzzed out noise uniting for a smooth crescendo, before ushering in a groovy drop and hypnotic finale.

The journey continues with the thoughtful moods of ‘Delusional’. Nicely tied to the ethos of the EP, Pedro marries a variety of percussive concepts with meditative rhythms and tranquil textures. It’s a transcendent and highly dignified storyboard, culminating with a trippy and moderately tense break, perfectly setting up a glowing finale accented with fragmented vocals and a maze of well-crafted percussion.

The lone interpretation of ‘Delusional’ is provided by Esteble who make their label debut. Hailing from the Netherlands, Joep Esseling and Bram Harmsen aka Esteble have carved out a unique place in the electronic underground. Their emotive creations have found favour with some of house music’s most prominent tastemakers such as Annie Mac and Solomun, while landing them releases courtesy of Anjunadeep, Diynamic, Do Not Sit On The Furniture and Stil Vor Talent. Also well travelled DJs, the Rotterdam duo have showcased their eclectic brand of electronic music at events around the world, such as Shoeless Festival, Feel Festival, Edit Festival and Pleinvrees. Now beginning 2021 in fine fashion, Esteble debut on Sound Avenue with a stunning rendition of ‘Delusional’. On a backbone of organic beats and dusty percussion, runs a storyboard of emerging atmospheres, hopeful chord changes and muted, melodic clusters. Contemporary in design and tastefully poignant, it’s a fresh, rhythmically satisfying production from one of electronic music’s most creative duos.

The release is capped off in fine fashion with the charming vibes of ‘Incandescent’. Immediately compelling, it’s shapely bass tones and dynamic percussion play off a creamy rhythmic core, making for a smooth, hip swinging groove. Its effortless mood grows subtly, as bubbly arps and luminous tones add an emotive slant to what is already a magical storyboard. Expertly timed, it’s chugging energy melts down into a break of effervescent lines and warm swells, building into a wave of kaleidoscopic colours, before a rush of beats and rides transfer energy into a glowing finale. The lone interpretation of ‘Incandescent’ is provided by Zoi who makes his label debut.

It is an exceptional collection of music from Pedro Capelossi, one which sees the Brazilian’s creative prowess continue to grow. You can now listen to the full premiere of Esteble’s remix exclusively on When We Dip. Enjoy!
