Review: Low-slung minimal flavours from hedZup label-founder WLAD

Any minimal fan worth their salt will be familiar with hedZup. The label has been dishing up stripped-back house tones since 2016, welcoming the likes of Michael James, Per Hammar and iO (Mulen) in recent times.

Now the latest release on the imprint comes from hedZup founder: WLAD, who’s just served up a whopping ten-track LP. It’s his debut album, with each record featuring a production partner of some sort.

Meaning ten collaborations and ten appearances from some of minimal’s finest.

Particular mention goes to The Future, a pacy groove-led offering made in conjunction with Jesse Mass. It’s quick, it’s bubbly and it’s the kind of beat that electrifies a crowd into no-holds-barred dancing. Top draw.

Sparkling Water gets another sizeable thumbs up. It’s the most stripped-back number on the LP – not surprising considering label co-founder Mancini features. Blend funky synths, punchy kicks and a BPM to make your mouth water and you’ve got a darn-good bit of kit. Just wait to hear this in the dance.

That’s just two of our personal favourites but the whole LP’s a treat. Oden & Fatzo feature, The Willers Brothers, Sante… you get the picture. If you like your house music dubby then you’re in for a field day.

Overall a class act from the Parisian label-head. WLAD – merci!
