Eagles & Butterflies & Shey Baba collaborate on vocal-driven gem ‘Rebel’

Eagles & Butterflies makes a long-awaited return to his Art Imitating Life imprint this week. The three-track ‘Rebel’ EP is the LA-based artist’s debut EP of 2021, it’s lead by the scintillating collaboration with singer and multi instrumentalist Shey Baba.

The vocal-driven title track continues where 2019’s Can’t Stop left off, reflecting the poignant sound with which Eagles & Butterflies has become best known. Cascading synths marry up next to resonant percussion, whilst a stirring lyrical solo from Shey Baba pulls deeply on our heartstrings.

‘Gone’ completes proceedings. Showcasing the more traditional style of Eagles & Butterflies’ production technique, moving chords reside atop a punchy one-two bassline, as hard-hitting snare patterns march on in the background. The EP kicks off a standout 2021 for Art Imitating Life, with a multitude of new releases set to appear on the label later this year.

Chris Baratt AKA Eagles & Butterflies has cemented his standing as one of electronic music’s leading talents in recent years. A previous winner of Mixmag’s coveted ‘Breakthrough Act Of The Year’ award, 2018 saw Chris mix BBC Radio 1’s iconic ‘Essential Mix’ before following this up with the release of Can’t Stop on his own Art Imitating Life label a year later. The single went on to receive an ‘Essential New Tune’ accolade, adding to an already venerated discography that has seen the LA-based producer release on Innervisions, Life & Death and a plethora of other industry-defining labels.
