Label founder Kora returns to Saisons with a mesmerising new EP. ‘Tantale’ is the 19th release from his budding Montreal-based imprint. The three track ensembles draws on global influences, displaying a lush blend of warm colours, distant melodies and stories from the road.

Tantale, Golconda and Tango are three songs that Kora started sketching in 2018. They were created with recordings from various locations. The EP radiates a diversity that has been painted by the brushes of people and places that Kora connected with as he was on the road. From Allen Husley’s qanun to Özdemir Güz’s oud, Ra*faelle’s Earth language and Alonso Rivero’s drums fills, the percussive and energetic release is a travel journal that highlights beautiful sounds from across the world and colourful creativity.

Tantale is the first track and centrepiece of the EP: a percussive and energetic story that started in Mexico City and reached its full elevation when the inspiring Québec-based vocalist and musician Ra*faelle added her voice to Kora’s instrumental piece. Rooted in nature’s frequencies, she improvises in what she humbly describes as Earth Language. A magical way of channeling nature’s vibrations into sound.

Golconda is the second track of that EP – A rumbling groover that keeps the energy building. The steady percussive tune took its full meaning when Allen Husley and Kora met in Amsterdam. After tuning his instrument to the right key, Allen layered beautiful string rhythms on the song. A few months later, the legendary Turkish musician Özdemir Güz recorded engaging takes on his iconic middle-eastern instrument, the oud.

Tango is the 3rd song taking roots on the South Pole, where Kora created his own interpretation of the melodic anthem the first time he entered a studio in Buenos Aires. As he grew up playing with a small jukebox that contained the tango anthem, the melodic memory came back to him the second he hit the Korg synthesizer keys in Argentina. A happy childhood memory coming to life at the right place and at the right time.
