The Malta-based label Lost & Found brings over 20 minutes of exciting material by one of the label’s bestselling artists, Khen. The three-track release delivers ideal music for clubs with robust sound systems. The opening track ‘Levantine’ is Khen’s collaboration with Shahaf Efrat, best known for his renowned Psy-Trance project Freedom Fighters. Khen and Shahaf successfully fuze together the authentic sound containing hypnotic elements, percussions, and modulated background noises. The tandem leads a spiritual take on underground dance music, pushing the boundaries of genres and making a statement in the world of audio production. The second track, ‘Angel’s Share’, is Khen’s solo creation taking an arpeggio trip down the melodic mysticism. The final piece, ‘Cumulus’, displays Khen’s exceptional arrangement skills. It fuses broken beats and epic melodies and represents a masterful ending to a masterful release.

WWD: The teamwork of the two renowned artists, Khen and Freedom Fighters, is interesting for the fans of both genres, psychedelic and progressive. You’ve signed the new track, ‘Levantine’, for Lost & Found. It sounds impeccable! However, how did the collaboration happen?

Khen: We’ve known each other for many years, And for a long time we’ve been discussing the idea of collaborating. Career-wise, we always felt like we were going on parallel paths, and were always a fan of each other’s music. When we first got in the studio, we just started playing with the synths until some ideas came out, it took time and a few sessions in both of our studios but once it took shape I sent it to Guy he immediately signed it as part of my ep.

Freedom Fighters: Khen has been working on an EP for Lost & Found for quite a long time, And I was always a fan of the music that’s being released over there. When we started discussing a collaboration, I had no idea where it was going, But I knew Lost & Found was the ultimate goal for a release. When we started working on the track, We found ourselves having too much fun in the studio, and the whole experience felt like a positive trip all around.

WWD: What’s the inspiration behind the music?

We felt like this time the inspiration came from our personal connection. The whole idea behind Levantine was simply to go in to the studio together, turn on the synthesizers (which we are both big fans of), as friends, and have as much fun as possible. The sessions were long & fun and we also incorporated food, Fifa, and an endless amount of laughs.

WWD: What’s different between approaching music solo, and collaborating with another experienced artist

We think it’s all about respecting, and accepting each other’s points of view.  Collaborating means stepping out of your comfort zone while incorporating each other’s visions.  In this specific collaboration, we felt like we’ve managed to somehow create a unique musical entity that would never have taken shape if it was done by each of us individually.

WWD: How much does the feedback from people you value help you improve yourself?

We are lucky enough to have a strong and talented group of friends/producers around us. They are always there to bring out the best version of ourselves, and vice versa.
