Canadian imprint Icewax Records drop rugged retro house on 12” by very own Montreal’s favorite trickster duo Hoopalaï. Opening cut ‘Electric Tartar’ is a night-time joyride with colourful arps, an irresistible bassline and filtering synths, its chic reverb giving it a disco-tinged dose of nostalgia. Next up is ‘SonaBar2am’, this after-hours offering melts minds with dubbed-out rhythm and continuously evolving effects reminding us of the infamous vibe of the legendary Montreal club SONA co-owned by Tiga. ‘Das Geht Nicht’ then closes out the record, its sweeping guitars and tingling acid making for a synth-fueled dancefloor bomb.

HOOPALAÏ was founded in 2015 by longtime friends Lebaron & Pfreud, who quickly established themselves as key artists in the Montreal scene by performing at spots like Stereo and Piknic Electronik alongside names like Henrik Schwarz, Wolf + Lamb, Dj Three, Julia Govor, Bob Moses, & Marc Rebillet just to name a few. Their debut release was charted by legendary American artist Felix Da Housecat, leading the way in a series of quality releases on labels such as Get Physical Music, Kindisch, Poésie Angulaire & Victims Music Company.

Hoopalaï ‘Electric Tartar’ releases via Icewax Records 17th March 2023. You can now listen to the full premiere of ‘Das Geht Nicht’ exclusively on our sister channel Dancefloor Romancer. Enjoy!
