AFFKT was last seen on Renaissance with his amazing remix of Julian Wassermann and Modeplex’s ‘Mondo’. Now he returns with his own EP, ‘Sopasopa’, which comes complete with a rare rework from the legend that is 1979.

Comprising 3 original tracks, the EP finds Spain’s AFFKT on diverse form, with a couple of 4/4 bombs – ‘Sopasopa’ itself and ‘Moronga’, alongside Apache-breaks sampling ‘Arpichulo’. “I think all the tracks are connected with my early electronic influences”, explains Marc (AKA AFFKT), “in fact, ‘Moronga’ reminds me a bit of Nathan Fake – ‘The Sky Was Pink’. Ultimately, the intention was for all the songs to overflow with energy and emotion. It was also great to get back to breaks with ‘Arpichulo’ since I produced drum & bass for more than 10 years as part of the duo Malsum.”

Icing the cake on the project (and when we say icing, we’ve gone full ‘Bake Off – The Professionals’), is the legendary 1979, who kindly agreed to take on the title track ‘Sopasopa’. “Remixing AFFKT’s track was fun!”, he expands, “I usually tend to approach remixes in a very different way than this one. In fact, most of the time I build a brand new track by picking just very few elements of the original. But this time Marc’s sounds were just too good! So, I sampled all the stuff in order to make my version; I wanted a functional, minimalistic feel, something good for a big festival stage. It was a pleasure to be part of this colourful and delicate EP on Renaissance!”

You can now listen to the full premiere of ‘Moronga’ exclusively on When We Dip. Enjoy!
