Swedish imprint, Seaweed Records, presents its inaugural VA compilation, ‘Seaweed Rhythms Vol. 1,’ via its sub-label Seaweed Rhythm. The compilation welcomes an array of talent, including Mihai Popoviciu, Per Hammar, Cesare vs Disorder, Rowlanz, Honeydrop, and more, making it a must-listen for any house music enthusiast.
Seaweed Records and its sub-label Seaweed Rhythm have established themselves as Scandinavian hotspots for fresh house music, ranging from immersive, dubby spheres to vibrant, classic territories. Seaweed Rhythm focuses on music leaning towards more minimal realms, previously featuring label boss Bäcksvart under his Zlene alias and his close friend Mathias Hinds, with remixes from Dirty Hands founder Per Hammar and RLZ boss Rowlanz for the first EP.
The end of June sees the unveiling of the label’s first Various Artist package, including new music from Mihai Popoviciu, YSC, Andu Simon, Honeydrop (aka DJ Honesty), and Cesare vs Disorder, plus a collaboration from the Seaweed family with Zlene alongside Kalkyl.
The compilation features Romanian favorite Mihai Popoviciu and UK’s Rowlanz on the A-side, delivering contrasting productions, ranging from an unearthly groove to a driving bassline and percussion fiesta. On the B-side, YSC’s ‘Phase’ and Andu Simon’s ‘When They See Us’ provide a slice of funk and a jazz-tinged deep dive into classy sonics.
Swedish maestro Per Hammar delivers the entrancing ‘Sub Motion,’ a late-night, trippy haze with wandering tones, perfectly paired with the skippy, slinking rhythms of Honeydrop’s slick ‘Instagram Sunset’. The compilation wraps up with the bubbling and wonky ‘Choramingando’ from Cesare vs Disorder and Zlene & Kalkyl’s wormhole of a production, ‘Pull It Up’.
