Spektre make a much-anticipated return to their record label Respekt, and it’s a thundering peak time techno EP in the duo’s usual distinctive style.

Hailing from the UK, Spektre need little introduction as one of the world’s most respected techno acts. Not only have they travelled the globe as headline DJs, they have also featured their dark and intense style on prestigious record labels such as Filth on Acid, Kraftek, 1605 and Drumcode.

Talking of prestigious record labels, Respekt is an imprint that is equally respected as its owners, and has signed music from both genre leaders and fresh talent. Its roster includes the likes of Marco Bailey, Spartaque, Mha iri, Ignacio Arfeli, and many others of equal calibre.

Prior to launching their Spektre alias nearly two decades ago, Rich Wakley and Paul Maddox were both successful solo artists who came together through a shared love of techno. This two-track EP is a perfect example of their style, which fuses hulking percussion and exhilarating synths with dark atmospherics to create intense grooves.

The EP’s title track ‘Delusion of Choice’ opens the release with eerie synths and a mysterious vocal sample layered with ominous bass tones and acid stabs. Built on a framework of slamming percussion, it’s a colossal track that oozes dance floor appeal.

‘Harbinger’ has a rumbling bassline and pounding kick drum that form a foundation for the twisted euphoria of its spine-chilling melody line. The track reaches a crescendo during the hands-in-the-air elation of the breakdown section, just before the energy lifts to the next level when the percussion slams back in to deliver the knockout blow.

You can now listen to the full premiere of ‘Harbinger’ exclusively on When We Dip. Enjoy!
