HE.SHE.THEY welcomes DJ/producer and multi-instrumentalist OX7GEN with his new EP ‘Evenire.’
A key figure in India’s DnB movement for several years, releasing on iconic imprints Ram Records and Hospital Records, Mumbai-born OX7GEN is an artist whose sound is continuously evolving in new directions. His current incarnation encompasses leftfield house, techno and bass translated into powerful dance floor moments, with recent stand out sets at Magnetic Fields, and Echoes of Earth Festival. Outside of dance music OX7GEN was previously the drummer for metal giants Skyharbor, who supported the Deftones & BABYMETAL on their European and US tours.
Some of the first works from his new studio space in Goa, ‘Evenire’ is a stunning introduction to OX7GEN’s evolved sound. A transcendent six tracker that includes three original tracks and their edits, opening with ‘Simula Endzone’ a glorious fever dream of swung 4/4 rhythms, pop-esque vocals and a trancey onerisim launching us into the stratosphere. Hot on its heels is the more driving ‘Neo Sensei’ which touches on a tantalising midpoint between psy trance references and acid house, and closing us out is ‘W84U’, a dreamy leftfield house cut that will have hands equally in the air at sunset or sunrise.
The release lands as HE.SHE.THEY celebrate their boundary-pushing sixth year. The highly respected and influential event series, label and fashion brand have established themselves as key players in driving more inclusive and diverse clubbing experiences, rooted in integrity and a cutting-edge creative vision.
OX7GEN says:
“The songs on Evenire were written during the first few months of moving into my new studio space in Goa, India. Although I’ve been known to play and produce drum & bass over the years, the songs that came out of my explorations in the new studio, feel like I’ve finally figured out what I want to say and it’s the most authentic I’ve ever felt as a producer. From swung 4/4 rhythms and borderline pop vocal cuts, all the way to psytrance and noughties house influences from my early days.
It’s such an honour to be able to release this music on a label like HE.SHE.THEY. Not only is it home to artists that make some wicked music but it’s also run by people committed to protecting the ideals of dance music culture and they fiercely celebrate the communities that created them. They stand for radical inclusivity and I’m grateful to be taken into the fold with open arms.”
