As his new chapter begins to take shape, Hannes Bieger reveals the second release from his fledgling label, Elektrons. Characterised by emotional depth and club-ready rhythmic structures, Hannes’ discography demonstrates his wonderfully heartfelt approach to production. Elektrons is home to his growing body of work, a place where he can expand, explore and induct a diverse cast of creative collaborators and contributors into his world.
With ‘Rising’ Hannes teams up with Indian vocalist Shrii. The artist, who hails from Hyderabad, is a singer, songwriter, producer, performer and DJ who combines Indian classical, western, and contemporary elements in her music. A member of acclaimed band Gods Robots, Shrii has performed around the world from Royal Opera House in Mumbai to Symbiosis Gathering in the USA. Shrii and Hannes met when he was touring in India, and it’s this trip that was the catalyst for ‘Rising…’
Hannes started to work on ‘Rising’ during a week off between shows in Goa. He is always inspired by his travel experiences, but this marked the very first time he made music in the midst of a tour, so the energy of Goa is imbued into the track. From the vibrancy of daily life in India, the enchanting jungle, the beaches and the contrast of the Portuguese architecture, Hannes channelled his experience into ‘Rising’, and the feeling we get is what he describes as “rays of sunlight cascading through the jungle trees.”
‘Rising’ begins with a groovy rhythm and mystical layers, soon joined by Shrii’s effortlessly dreamy vocals. When the track kicks in, Hannes keeps the funk rolling in conjunction with a typically emotive core. The energy builds until we reach a skillfully tempered breakdown, taking things down and building them back up – with the aid of a distorted acid synth drop – into a potent second half. Hannes strips things back a little after the breakdown before injecting another large dose of emotionally-charged, funk- infused energy. Shrii’s vocals add a beautifully melodic layer, complementing Hannes’ exquisite production throughout.
Hannes and Shrii form an awesome combination on ‘Rising’, and provide Elektrons with another special piece of music. Excellence all round.
