Houghton Festival 2024: Back to the Norfolk countryside we go

Half a decade. Five whole years. Since 2018, Houghton has consistently been a mecca for like-minded music enthusisats. A haven to let loose, free from judgement or scrutiny, in the bucolic Norfolk countryside.

As always, there’s a palpable sense of excitement surrounding this year’s edition, as we enter the summer season in a haze of wide-eyed anticipation.

The festival remains true to its roots in supporting the scene’s fast-rising stars, whilst welcoming old friends and Houghton stalwarts alike. From Sansibar, Willow and D. Tiffany to Zip, Rhadoo and Sonja Moonear.

Add to that the additional disciplines on show, be it painting and gastronomy or visual arts and wellness activities, and you’ll quickly learn Houghton is far more than just a music festival.

Musically, the offering is eclectic, a testament to Craig and Bobby’s keen ear for curation. We’re particularly excited to see James Shinra perform live, as well as Midland, who we sadly missed at Pavillion last year.

That’s not to mention the various stages on show (and the mixture of atmospheres and moods that come with them). Be it descending the steps of Quarry to a rapturous rave beneath; or Pavillion, the wooded building that overlooks Houghton lake just behind.

Then there’s Derren Smart, an outdoor haven, as well as Earthling, Tantrum and plenty, plenty more.

In our opinion, it’s the location that makes Houghton truly, truly special. Well-trodden forest paths meander into wooded alcoves, whilst trees flank the entirety of the site, enveloping the lake that sits serenely in the centre.

Un-replicable, un-mimicable and wholly wondrous in its appeal. Three apt descriptions for what Houghton is at its core.
