An artist with a rich and varied production portfolio to his name, Patrick Carrera is synonymous with some of the finest modern underground dance music through his MUUI production moniker. Making his Proportion debut, the Australian artist now delivers his ‘Otro Mundo / Outside Your Body’ EP.
Responsible for over 500 production credits spanning more than a decade since a 2013 debut on Eelke Kleijn’s Outside The Box, MUUI’s glittering career has continued apace with releases on the likes of Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music, Pablo Bolivar’s Seven Villas and Sharam’s YoshiToshi Recordings. The Berlin-based artist has also scored a string of hits on his own Here.Now label with recent work for GMJ & Matter’s Meanwhile Horizons imprint as MUUI now makes his Proportion debut.
‘Outside Your Body’ is a chugging rhythmic gem that quickly gathers momentum through driving kick and shaker-fuelled top-line. Melodic intrigue is created through a mesmerizing motif that filters across the 10-minute piece while glassy keys and counterpoint phrases cascade off each other in a sensual aural collage. Redolent in a sea of delays and reverb tales, the track evolves effortlessly, reaching a spine-tingling denouement at the beatless mid-point before dropping back in to the hypnotic vibrancy and hefty bassline progression while a free-flowing melody plays out.
Another sprawling magnum opus, ‘Otro Mundo’ continues the opulent melodic narrative of its counterpart. Another shimmering motif shines through a glorious rhythmic backdrop of rapid-fire hats, chest-thumping kick and off-beat clap/snare. Luscious pads build underneath with thickly textured soundscape, while a pitched oscillator catches the ear as the tracks drops into a tapestry of filtered interwoven melodies at the breakdown. Full of dancefloor prowess, MUUI’s production prowess is notable through a powerful drop into a seething progressive house monster that is certain to find favour on many late-night adventures in clubland.
