Recently, a total solar eclipse graced Montréal, casting shadows and illuminating new perspectives. Amidst the crowd of onlookers, two friends and collaborators watched in awe. 

Just five years prior, Kora had conceived the name ‘Halaken’ for his friends’ budding label and collective. In a full-circle moment, he later remixed Halaken’s debut track, Mercan Dede’s ‘Kapadokya,’ releasing it on his own label, Saisons.

Both labels once more align with the release of ‘Golconda (Halaken Remix),’ marking the first remix of a Kora track by label founders Mercan Dede and Dexter Crowe. The remix retains the elegant balance and nuances of Kora’s original, weaving in layers of moody, atmospheric textures that frame Özdemir Güz’s oud melodies. The track subtly unearths a denser tempo, rooted deeply in the essence of Golconda.

‘Golconda (Halaken Remix)’ serves as a testament to the enduring friendship and creative synergy between the Halaken Collective and Kora. The cross-pollination of songs, and visits from one studio to another, creates new spaces of connection through which tracks such as this one emerge, carrying new cycles to light.
