DJ Sneak’s ‘Synesthesia’ EP is a journey through the deep that traces back to his formative years in Chicago and delivers the perfect follow-up to his 2023 Heist Recordings debut ‘Back To Love.’

Opener ‘I Can Tell You What You Want’ is a bubbly houser with chopped-up R&B vocals draped over moody chords and monstrous kicks and a touch of Ghetto house thrown in. ‘A Taste of the 90s’ embodies more of a 90s New York sound with its funky guitar licks and loopy horns dancing over the jostling beats.

On the flip, ‘Dirty Jazz’ gets back to more physical drums and elastic bass as eerie keys pepper the groove and add an off-kilter swagger. Sneak’s ability to layer up irresistible loops defines closer ‘You Know What I Mean?’ where grinding chord sequences and hard-edged kicks combine to great effect beneath sleazy filtered vocals that ooze future feel.

Second-wave pioneer DJ Sneak will always be synonymous with Chicago’s intrinsic house sound. A pivotal figure in the development of the genre in the mid-90s, Sneak’s raw, loopy take on house music made him one of the most in-demand DJs in the world and has found a home on labels like Cajual, Moxy Muzik, Strictly Rhythm, and more. A year on from his ‘Back To Love’ EP on Heist, which garnered support from BBC 6Music’s Jamz Supernova and Laurent Garnier, the Puerto Rican-born Chicago mainstay is back with another classy offering on Dam Swindle’s much-loved label.

You can now listen to the full premiere of ‘I Can Tell You What I Want’ exclusively on When We Dip. Enjoy!
