Sweden-based DJ, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and live show specialist Crackazat has long been a staple on Heist Recordings. From his first outing on the label in 2021 with the ‘Alfa’ EP to his mini LP ‘Senses’ last year, Dam Swindle’s imprint has proven to be a perfect home for Crackazat’s glorious fusion of keyboard wizardry, funky bass work, and live horns into a loved-up celebration of jazz-infused dance music, the latest of which comes in the form of his three-track ‘In The Sky’ EP.

Title cut ‘In The Sky’ takes you on an earworm deep house trip built on a syncopated key loop. Shuffling percussion, lively horns and dazzling strings bring the soul to a hip-swinging groove blended seamlessly with Crackazat’s own vocals before ‘Burnin’ sees the Bristol-born artist channel his inner rave kid, drawing for punchy 90s-inspired drums and raw piano chords that duck and dive next to quirky chopped vocals and lush synth work. The wonderful ‘Dark’ is up last, bringing late-night and heads-down vibes with a melancholic, subtle melodic phrase unfolding over heavy kicks. Crackazat’s smoky vocals add a beautiful dimension to this contemplative sound that make you want to close your eyes and sway into oblivion.
