Mindscape founder and audio alchemist, VNTM, has unveiled a new closing of his project, ‘Open Source,’ to start the year in an initial shock drop format. The ‘Open Source 12’ EP explores various concepts and is divided into five tracks. It is an ode to the sonic mysticism that the artist has sought to polish throughout his career. The sounds of each of the episodes of this series contemplate nostalgic, raw techno with a melancholy that invites listeners to reflect on the experimental skills of the producer.
Starting with ‘Trickle’s’ unique take on a strange sci-fi techno sound, the track offers a pristine and nostalgic ode to nightlife. Its powerful journey is both captivating and sequential, leading listeners into a labyrinth of sonic emotions. Next up is ‘The Rush,’ a playful track that re-contextualizes vitality and style in every note. This piece seems designed for those seeking a sense of relief on the dancefloor, featuring a vibe that is both obscure and gracefully hypnotizing.
In contrast, ‘Intuition’ presents an enjoyable and noble experience. It brings resilient energy to the dancefloor, layered over a crackling bass line, representing a reality that few dare to face. ‘Hemisphere’ is a revelation, redefining one’s understanding of VNTM’s sound. This remarkably imaginative track is infused with unexpected sense of joy. Its sound aesthetic marks a departure from VNTM’s usual productions, embracing experimental techno that surprises while maintaining high production quality and an emphasis on the anticipation of dawn. Closing the EP, ‘Break Of Dawn’ is filled with giddy emotional highs and obscure elements that induce am illusory state in the listener. It exemplifies VNTM’s commitment to his art.
From VNTM: “To conclude this first “Open Source” project, I wanted to create an EP that showcases the full spectrum of the project. These five tracks represent the depths of my live set and the range I use when performing on stage. “Intuition” is a very personal piece where I often questioned whether it was too this or too that. Embracing the fact that it features a unique melody that doesn’t quite fit into any specific category led to an internal confrontation I had to face. I believe the outcome reflects 100% of me and my signature sound, and I’m happy to play it at every gig!”
