MiZi MuZiK kicks off its catalog with a smashing all-female extravaganza. For ‘MiZi TaPeS 001,’ Mira and Mila Stern present a floor-focused four-tracker comprising exclusively of collaborations with some of their closest friends: MANTi, Britta Arnold, and Niki Sadeki.
Mira and LA-based DJ and producer MANTi open MiZi’s discography with a radiant orchestra of swirling, bending, and arcing sawtooth chords. ‘Distance’ bridges the gap between their aesthetics, beautifully reimagining MANTi’s morphing melodics in the framework of Mira’s groovy, slow-burning hypnotism.
On ‘Refract Glow,’ Mila Stern and New York-based DJ and producer Niki Sadeki fuse Niki’s dreamy, glinting Electronica with Mila’s biting edge. Their collaboration emerges darkly anthemic, with powerful, compact drum structures and pitch-bent salvos of incandescent synths that cut through the rolling gloom like blinding rays of light across a darkening sky.
‘Cotton Brain’ conjures its namesake state of enveloping dancefloor abandon. A stripped and shoegazy groove, smatterings of whiplash drum hits, and an eerie field of spaced-out arps pulse across a quivering atmospheric void. With ‘Cotton Brain,’ Mira and Kater resident Britta Arnold strip away distractions until all that remains is a shuddering core of pure dancefloor energy.
Finally, Mila Stern and Mira artfully channel their ephemeral overlap into a dark, expansive, and compellingly catchy collaboration. Set to a rumbling beat, blippy percussion, and growling fields of saws, ‘The Ghost Between Us’ gradually builds and morphs, erupting into mangled sweeps and biting synth figures that infuse its shadowy mesmerism with powerful, spaced-out funkiness.
‘MiZi TaPeS 001’ brings together five unique aesthetics to deliver four iterations of the sounds closest to our hearts with some of the people we most admire. Join us as we embark to shine a light on the sounds we love, no matter how big or small.
