After a short hiatus, Tom Szirtes, better known as Shur-I-Kan, makes a strong return to Lazy Days Recordings. A longtime staple of the label since 2009, the UK producer has delivered eight EPs over the years, alongside exclusives, collaborations, and remixes that have helped shape the imprint’s deep and timeless sound.

For this new chapter, Shur-I-Kan joins forces once again with Fred Everything on a new collaborative effort titled ‘Composition X.’ The two artists have previously teamed up for releases on both Tsuba Records and Lazy Days, always delivering sophisticated and musically rich material.

Rooted in Shur-I-Kan’s classical training and melodic sensibilities, the new project sees both artists blending their strengths with effortless chemistry. The result is a deep, textured piece of music that reflects their shared commitment to warmth, groove, and elegant production.

Tom is a classically trained keyboard player and Composition X is based on one of his original composition. Originally sent as a basic demo, Fred reworked it by adding beats, keys and additional production. The original mix is based around a main strummed chord theme, backed by an upright bass, strings and a solid rhythm section.

‘The Dub’ was created as a bonus beat idea where one of the drum machines triggered a chord on the Juno 60, which inspired a whole new version. ‘The Reprise’ is just what you would expect, a shorter, mostly beatless version highlighting the main part of the composition.

You can now listen to the full premiere of ‘Composition X (Dub)’ exclusively on When We Dip. Enjoy!
