Super Flu step up on Fritz Kalkbrenner remix duties, adding tension and texture to ‘When I See You’

Fritz Kalkbrenner has spent over two decades shaping a sound that connects club culture with emotional depth. As a producer, vocalist and live act, his work bridges introspective songwriting and dancefloor weight. His latest release, ‘When I See You,’ on Virgin is no exception. Built around crisp percussion, warm pads and a soulful female vocal, the original version drifts between melancholia and movement with signature clarity.

For the remix, Super Flu step in with their unmistakable sense of tension and texture. The German duo are known for bending melodic house into unexpected shapes. Their version leans into groove and hypnosis, stripping things back and rethreading the track with low-slung basslines, rhythmic twists and just the right amount of mischief. It’s a patient burner that builds from within, never losing the emotional thread.

Fritz Kalkbrenner’s catalogue is rich with tracks that feel both personal and powerful. From the enduring legacy of ‘Sky and Sand’ to the refined production of his recent album ‘Third Place,’ he’s carved out a sound that’s as much about presence as it is about production. Super Flu bring their own legacy to the table – a history of playful, off-centre club cuts that have lit up everything from Watergate to Wilderness.

The remix lands at the intersection of two distinct energies. One rooted in Berlin’s emotive house tradition, the other in eccentric groove craftsmanship. Together, they offer a version of ‘When I See You’ that works late into the night, without ever losing its soul.
