Budakid is back on his own label Flores with a superb 2-track EP. High energy, intricate sound design, introspective moods and Budakid’s authentic vocal presence. ‘Movin’ On’ begins with lush, atmospheric textures – deep, spacy sound design that immediately sets a contemplative tone. But don’t get too comfortable. The track slowly unravels into a radiant, piano-charged house burner, where emotion meets dancefloor energy. Budakid’s signature harmonic layering and groove provide a steady pulse, pulling the listener toward its energetic vocal drop. When his own voice cuts through the mix, it adds a raw, human element. A certified peak-time moment that blends elegance with intensity. This one isn’t just a tune, it’s a statement. ‘A Conscious Distortion’ takes a different path. More introspective, more cinematic.

It’s an ambient-leaning piece that wraps you in waves of melancholic warmth. The piano is delicate but deliberate, weaving through intricate textures that feel both timeless and futuristic. There’s a sense of drifting through memory, through space, through something deeply personal. Coming all together in the breakdown where a haunting voice surfaces. Each sound feels carefully placed. It’s a track that rewards deep listening – a journey that invites you to let go and float. Here, Budakid shows his most vulnerable and artful side.

You can now listen to the full premiere of ‘A Conscious Distortion’ exclusively on When We Dip. Enjoy!

WWD: Congratulations on the first anniversary of Flores! Looking back on the past year, what has been the most rewarding part of running your own label?

Thanks a lot. It has been a wild journey not knowing exactly what I was stepping into. For me, the most rewarding parts are definitely having full creative control. Being able to think conceptually with artists and following my own musical direction. It has also helped me develop my own philosophy even more and given me a clearer sense of the path I want to take personally.

WWD: When you launched Flores, what vision did you have for it as a platform, and how do you feel it has evolved since the first release?

That’s a good question. I actually started the imprint for several reasons. One of them was that most of the releases I did in the past could have been handled more personally. That’s probably my perfectionist trait (which honestly freaks me out sometimes), especially with my background in media design and music. For me, aligning text, visuals and audio is key. If the concept feels off, it becomes mass production, which goes against the essence of art and expression for me.

Another reason was the saturation of the music industry, especially in the scene I’m part of. Currently thousands of labels release new music every week. From my perspective, it has become more about quantity than quality. That motivated me to create a platform that stands for what I define as quality music.

And finally, transparency. Over the past 10+ years, I’ve released music on many labels and experienced very different approaches. One of the most important aspects for artists is the value of their music – how the numbers actually translate into cash flow. From about 50% of the labels I’ve signed with, I haven’t received a single penny. That made me furious and motivated me to do things differently. I do it in a way how I want to be treated myself.

WWD: The next EP features Movin’ On and A Conscious Distortion, two very different but complementary tracks. How did you approach writing this release, and what story are you telling through these pieces?

Movin’ On was a track I created completely in the box. It took me about half a day to arrange the main framework. I resampled some synth pads I had recorded over time and wanted to create a symbiosis between house and progressive house. Conceptually, Movin’ On is about changing times and an evolving world. Times change, things move on.

A Conscious Distortion (A.C.D.) is a track I worked on for three years. The complete yang to the previous story. It was endless fine-tuning, shaping and crafting. It also didn’t fit many labels because it’s unusual and hard to mix, as its arrangement differs from typical tracks. That’s part of the concept. We’re always striving for perfection but we should also leave space for distortions, oddities and imperfections in our lives and expressions. That’s what makes it feel human.

WWD: Your own vocals play a key role in Movin’ On. What made you decide to step in front of the microphone, and how do you feel your voice shapes the emotional character of the track?

Lately I’ve been grappling with the impact of artificial intelligence which raised the question: How can I make my music more personal? In that search I found a few answers for myself; staying true to my beliefs, incorporating personal recordings like my voice or instruments and enjoying the creative process.

Movin’ On initially had a longer lyric, but I stripped it down to what it is now. That last phrase was strong enough to convey the message for me. I didn’t want to write a full song for this one because it would take away from its club character.

WWD: A Conscious Distortion shows a more ambient, cinematic side of your artistry. Was it important for you to showcase this introspective side on the label’s anniversary release?

The music I release isn’t really confined to a single sound spectrum. It’s more about the artists’ expressions and what they want to communicate. With this release, I wanted to showcase freedom, the idea that there’s no box you need to fit into. The only box is your own philosophy.

WWD: Flores has already become known for its balance of high-energy dance tracks and deeper, more emotional explorations. How do you curate the sound of the label, and what do you look for in artists or tracks you release?

For me all the releases so far have been authentic and personal sonic journeys. Ranging from high-energy dance tracks to deeper, emotional explorations. I do have some criteria before I sign original tracks: I need to want to play it in every set, the concept needs to move me emotionally and the artist should have a clear sense of their own philosophy and artistic direction.

WWD: As you look ahead to the second year of Flores, what can fans expect in terms of future releases, collaborations, or perhaps even events tied to the label?

The first year already felt overwhelming to me and the second year will expand the spectrum even more. So far, musical expression has been the main focus of Flores. The next steps might also include a physical experience of the Flores platform. Too many ideas if I’m honest, let’s see which ones see daylight 🙂
