As the season turns, All Day I Dream bids farewell to another radiant summer with the release of its Summer’s End Sampler — a 12-track collection that embodies the warmth, nostalgia, and sense of renewal that comes with seasonal change. Carefully curated from a blend of rising favorites and emerging talents, the compilation captures the label’s signature aesthetic of deep, melodic, and transportive sounds.

Opening the sampler is Sydney-based producer mredrollo, who delivers the groove-rich ‘Funkinmusic’. Playful yet deeply emotive, the track sets the tone for the journey ahead, balancing infectious rhythm with a soulful undercurrent that feels right at home within the All Day I Dream universe.

The compilation then flows through a diverse array of moods: Amand’s moody late-night cut ‘In The Dark’, the heady collaboration ‘Sixth Sense’ from London’s Cameron Jack & ABEL, and SaPu’s percussive exploration ‘Gyal Got Moves.’ Caribbean beatmaker Disalazar and Natasha enchant with ‘Child Chants’, while Still-Life offers introspection with ‘The Sound Of Herself.’

Later highlights include Córdoba duo Nacho Varela & Cruz Vittor’s floor-igniting ‘Bright In The Club’ and VICTHOR’s sunrise-ready anthem ‘The Dawn.’ As the journey nears its end, Argentinian newcomer Facundo Leiarz teams up with Shayan Pasha on the stirring ‘Leave It On’, leading into John Woods & Noraj Cue’s ‘The Youth Substance.’ The closing stretch arrives with the delicate emotion of Aldous’ ‘Silhouette’ and the breezy, wistful finale ‘Melodica’ from London duo Nichols+Roark.

We’re delighted to host the exclusive premiere of mredrollo’s “Funkinmusic” here on When We Dip. Press play and let the groove carry you forward while you read the small chat we had with mredrollo.

WWD: Can you share the story behind ‘Funkinmusic’ and what inspired its sound?

When I first started this track, I wanted to write something big and groovy, a proper statement piece. I’ll admit, I did have All Day I Dream in mind, but I wasn’t interested in just slotting into the existing sound. I wanted to bring something fresh to the table. I’ve been inspired by the ADID sound for years, especially Tim Green. You’ll no doubt hear his influence in my music as he’s played big part in my journey. Since we connected a few years ago, Tim’s been nothing but supportive, constantly pushing me to go further with my ideas and I’m sure his words of wisdom somehow rolled over into Funkinmusic. So yeah… cheers, Tim!

WWD: The ‘Summer Sampler’ always has a special place in the ADID catalog. What does it mean to you to be part of this release, and how do you see your track contributing to the overall mood of the compilation?

Being part of this year’s Summer Sampler feels like the perfect entry point for me on the label. The Samplers have always been a good mix of familiar names and new artists, and they’ve introduced me to some of my all-time favourite ADID tracks over the years. This year there are some really great tracks on the release and a couple of standouts for me are The Dawn by VICTHOR and The Youth Substance by John Woods & Noraj Cue. I’m hoping that Funkinmusic brings something fresh and bit different that helps to evolve the traditional ‘sound’ we’ve come to love so much.

WWD: Your productions often blur the line between organic textures and electronic flow. What techniques or elements did you lean on most when crafting ‘Funkinmusic’?

This track is really held together by the baseline. I wanted to create the illusion of someone actually playing bass, so I spent a good amount of time trying to mimic what bass player might do. I don’t really play bass, so it was a bit of guesswork and relying on what felt right. But it’s really expressive and I think I captured that illusion well. Then of course there is the main vocal line “Keep the funk in the music.” When I stumbled upon this sample, I kind of had my mission statement and it encouraged me to really “funk up” my track. I added guitar plucks, extra percussion and the polyrhythmic mallets that brought things to a whole new level. The main progression was actually totally different right up until the very end, where I completely changed it. It’s hard to describe but this often happens to me in the writing process, I’ll hear a progression or sequence starting from a different beat or bar and inevitably change it to suit. It results in something that I wouldn’t naturally come up with and generally turns out for the better.

WWD: How does this single reflect your evolution as an artist, and in what ways does it set the tone for the music you’re working on next?

I guess you could say that this single shows a new found confidence in my ideas. I’m always looking for new ways of doing things while staying true to what I love to make most. It keeps the process exciting for me and (hopefully) for the listener too. I love finding artists that keep you on your toes. Ones who keep pushing the boundaries and explore new ways of doing things. These artists are rare but are most exciting for me. So naturally I try to capture this. Releasing on All Day I Dream is a huge milestone too and something I’ve had my sights on for a while. It took a long time until I felt like my music was ready to join the label and I didn’t want to rush the process. But, Lee and I have been chatting about some plans for next year, so let’s just say this current tone is more of a “first step” than a final destination.

WWD: All Day I Dream has built a strong global community around its sound and events. What’s been your personal connection to the label and its audience, and how do you hope listeners experience ‘Funkinmusic’ within that world?

Strangely enough I’ve never made it to an All Day I Dream event, but my music has been on high rotation at these parties for years. Luckily the community is strong with people willing to share videos, which has allowed me to experience these events vicariously through instagram. And honestly there has been no greater feeling than seeing my music destroy dance floors all over the world. It was Lee Burridge who first reached out to me back in 2022, telling me he’d been rocking one of my recent tracks in his sets, ‘Mr. Priority’. It was the first major support I’d ever received and I owe a lot to Lee for discovering me like this. I’d only released a small amount of music and didn’t really have much on the horizon either, so I was stoked and surprised to have Lee reach out. From here it wasn’t long until others started slipping into my DMs like Tim Green, Double Touch, Jim Rider, Newman (I Love), and Sébastien Léger. All artists who have played a big part in my own journey. I think I’ve got about 30 videos of Lee
dropping Funkinmusic and the crowd reactions have been insane. It’s some of the biggest reactions I’ve ever seen from my music. When the track drops, it lands exactly how I hoped. Something that was big, groovy and would make a statement. So yeah, mission accomplished.

WWD: We are exciting for what’s next! Thanks for your answer.

Thanks a lot 🙂
