Sometimes musicians come along, who deftly balance themselves on the thin line between music and a contemporary artistic experience. Creating a world beyond their music through a visceral passion for creativity, taking this into the visual space as well as the audio medium.
Broken Composers is the pseudonym for creators Kirill Rave and Vitali Yu. Since their debut at the Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art in 2017, they have developed a body of work that weaves together music, large-scale media installations, light and laser environments, video art, and performative theater.
Their practice blends architectural precision with a scientific sensibility, creating an artistic language that dislodges audiences from ordinary perception and ushers them into unfamiliar realms. Each work is conceived as a dramaturgy of perception—structured around sound, rhythm, and shifting expectations that eventually unravel. What begins as a performance transforms into something else entirely, marked by rupture, disorientation, and metamorphosis.
This now crescendos with a forthcoming EP, pushing the boundaries of techno – ‘IDM,’ experimental and everything in between, to create something truly unique and potent. The first single ‘ReAct,’ sets the tone impeccably. With layers of acid techno, improvisation through analogue synths and a devastatingly strong production standard.
The duo’s inspiration springs from the strangeness of reality itself: its paradoxes, distortions, and observable yet uncanny phenomena such as optical illusions, astronomical events, sensory glitches, and physical effects. Through these explorations, Broken Composers investigate how human beings construct a sense of reality—and invite audiences to step beyond its boundaries.
